Abstract

The increasingly complex era of globalization and modernization requires Islamic educational institutions to understand themselves as an integrated system rather than a collection of separate components. This article aims to examine the principles of systems thinking within the framework of the goals, boundaries, and structure of the Islamic education system, and to explain its urgency for the development of Islamic education in the modern era. This study employs a library research approach, examining the concept of systems thinking from the perspective of general systems theory (Banathy, Haines, Claggett & Karahanna) integrated with the values of tauhid, the Qur'an, and Hadith. The findings show that systems thinking in Islamic education encompasses an understanding of system elements (raw input, instrumental input, environmental input, process, and output), the delineation of system boundaries (both physical and conceptual), and a dynamic system structure combining hardware, software, and heartware. Systems thinking proves essential for avoiding fragmented thinking, enabling adaptation to global change without losing authenticity (ashalah), achieving an integral educational goal (Insan Kamil), and improving decision-making effectiveness through an understanding of feedback loops. The study concludes that the principle of systems thinking represents an integration of scientific rationality and the transcendental values of the Qur'an, allowing Islamic education to be viewed as a living, dynamic, and interconnected entity that shapes an intellectually and spiritually excellent generation.
