Abstract

Social adaptation is an essential developmental domain that determines the level of social functioning of children with special needs (CSN) within inclusive education settings. Limitations in following social norms, building peer interactions, and regulating emotions require professional support, particularly from school counselors. This study aims to explore the meaning of counselor support in enhancing the social adaptation of CSN at TK Islam Al Manar, Jambi City. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data obtained through in-depth interviews, structured observations, and documentation involving two children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), one school counselor, and two classroom teachers. The findings reveal that counselor support has a substantial contribution to improving children’s social adaptation, reflected in: (1) better comprehension of school social rules, (2) increased self-confidence and comfort in school activities, (3) enhanced communication and peer interaction skills, and (4) reduced social withdrawal and tantrum behaviors. These results confirm the crucial role of school counselors in ensuring the success of inclusive education implementation through intensive guidance and continuous collaboration with teachers and parents.
